Tom Neave - Short Track UK:
Hi, my name is Tom Neave and I am 16 years old. I race motorcycles in the Short Track UK flat track series (both the Junior British Grand National and Junior Club series) This sport is known to be the quickest growing motorcycle sport in the UK!
I am currently at school, but my free nights are spent in the garage learning (and cleaning!) and every weekend spent riding if not racing, this is how enthusiastic and passionate I am about riding motorcycles.
My achievements:
I have won the British Grand National Junior championship with not one race lost all season, and have won all rounds of the junior club championship so far on my Honda CRF 250. I feel I am able to maintain and be crowned the title for both championships due to the effort and preparation I put into my bike and equipment. And I am yet to show more potential in my racing years to come.
Having only raced bikes for one year now, I feel very lucky to have had many great opportunities offered me. Having impressed at Rye House speedway track earlier on in the Short Track season, owner Len Silver (who has been in the game over 65 years) invited me back to his track so I could try my hand at speedway. On my arrival he offered me a contract to race in his national league team, and depending how I got on, follow me up to premier league. Having spoken to Len last Short track round he is still eager for me to ride for him.
Another great memory of mine is riding with famous road racers Carl Fogarty and Jamie Whitam when they both came and tried short track at Coventry (which was also filmed and will be showed as part of a special series the two riders are doing). Not only this, three times world speedway champion Jason Crump came and tried the sport. Many other famous speedway, grass track and road racers names have come and tried their efforts at the sport but struggled to master the technique.
My ambitions for 2012:
Next year I will compete in the short track class riding a Honda CRF 450 throughout the season. In between the UK rounds I will be travelling to America (where the sport originates from) were I will also compete for a week at one of the Flat Track series. Not only this, I wish to travel across Europe to compete in some MEFO and Italian Flat Track rounds. During the season of 2012 there will be an FIM world Flat track championship round which I will also be attending! I will be racing in the ACU Top Gun MX grass track championship and many other races. Next year will be a big year for as I am moving onto a Honda CRF 450 and competition can only get stronger! As you can probably tell I am extremely passionate about motorcycles and that is why in life I want to pursue a career related to motorsports, preferably Road racing or Speedway.
